Peridot crystals, sometimes called
evening emeralds have played a large role in ancient cultures and still continue to play a role today. Mining operations of this mineral have been found as early as 1,500 years before Christ. The Egyptions used It to ward off evils and when mounted in gold it would protect against bad dreams. Today Peridot is no longer minded in Egypt. It's found in a series of countries such as the United States, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.
Peridot is unique in the fact that there are no alternate colors, it's always lime green, sometimes with a yellow tint. The largest gemstone of this type found was a 310 carat rock which is now housed in the Smithsonian.
